Did you think that the members of our society had settled down and were not going anywhere?
Nothing could be further from the truth! From 04.05 to 14.05.2025, our society member and deputy secretary Hubert Knap completed a short-term internship at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid. As part of this trip, Hubert had the opportunity to learn about mechanical surface testing techniques. Among the techniques he learned were optical profilometry and microhardness measurements of metal surfaces. Every trip abroad opens up opportunities to get to know the country you are going to, and there was time for that too. In addition to the techniques mentioned, the University employees were also very willing to share information about what they were currently working on. Hubert had the opportunity to learn about 3D metal printing, a machine for testing tensile strength, and an extruder for producing polymer composites.
The PROM programme – short-term academic exchange is financed by the European Union under the project entitled “Short-term academic exchange as a way to improve the quality of education in higher education and science institutions” number FERS.01.05-IP.08-0218/23.(FERS Projects).
"The trip to Spain allowed me to expand my knowledge of mechanical techniques for surface testing. In addition, the staff showed me other techniques that I could potentially use in my future research. The stay in Spain itself also allowed me to significantly improve my Spanish language skills and cooperation in an international team. If I ever have the opportunity to return to the Juan Carlos University, I will definitely want to take advantage of it," - comments Hubert.
As you can see, studies and membership in the Society are not only about learning and research, but also amazing opportunities to broaden your horizons and make new friends.
