The ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to prof. Brian Kobilka
On May 30th, 2023, the ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to prof. Brian Kobilka - an outstanding American biologist, physician, Nobel Prize winner in chemistry will take place.
The ceremony will take place on the professor's birthday at the Education and Congress Centre. After that, a meeting of Prof. Kobilka and his wife, also a researcher Tong Sun Kobilka, with the Academic Community has been scheduled. The meeting will be hosted by the Vice-Rector for Science and Development prof. Marek Pawełczyk. The meeting will be an opportunity to ask questions and talk with the Nobel laureate and his wife, as well as learn the details of their research.
During a few-day visit to Gliwice, prof. Brian Kobilka will also take part in a scientific seminar entitled "Silesian University of Technology for medicine", will meet with students and employees from Ukraine, will also visit the Centre of Biotechnology and the European Centre of Innovative Technologies for Health.
Professor Brian Kobilka will be the 54th Doctor Honoris Causa of the Silesian University of Technology and at the same time the first the Nobel Prize winner to be awarded this title. The scientist received the Nobel Prize in 2012 together with Robert Lefkowitz for research on G protein-coupled receptors. These studies have contributed to significant progress in cell biology and medicine.
