From May 27th to June 1st, 2023, the Silesian University of Technology will host an outstanding scientist, prof. Brian Kobilka, Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, author of over 50 papers in major issues of the journals Nature and Science. On May 30th, the professor will receive the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of our University.
Prof. Brian Kobilka is an American physician and molecular biologist. His research into the structure and function of cell surface molecules known as G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) - the largest family of signal-receiving molecules found in organisms - has contributed to significant advances in cell biology and medicine. For his discoveries, he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2012 together with the American physician and molecular biologist Prof. Robert J. Lefkowitz. It is estimated that the discovery of prof. Brian Kobilka is used in about 40% of currently produced drugs.

Visit Schedule:
May 29th (Monday) at 10:00-12:00 in auditorium 200 in the building of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation there will be held a scientific seminar with the participation of the professor entitled "Silesian University of Technology for medicine".
May 30th (Tuesday - Professor Kobilka's birthday) at 11:00-12:30 in Lecture Hall A in the CEK building, the ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa will take place.
On the same day at 16:00-18:00 also in Hall A, a meeting with the University Community is planned, where you will be able to talk to the professor, ask questions about his work, building research teams and raise many other issues.
During a few days visit, prof. Kobilka and his wife will also visit the campus and selected laboratories.
