Title: Support for the implementation of joint activities within European University EURECA-PRO

Project number (NAWA): BPI/WUE/2024/1/00010
Duration of the project: 01.10.2024 - 30.09.2026
Funding: 1 972 670,00 PLN

The implementation of the project is aimed at increasing the activity of the Silesian University of Technology community in the activities of the European University EURECA-PRO entitled "Responsible Consumption and Production".

The EURECA-PRO consortium currently includes 9 universities from 8 Member countries of the European Union:

  • Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria),
  • Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany),
  • Technical University of Crete (Greece),
  • Universidad de León (Spain),
  • Silesian University of Technology (Poland),
  • University of Petrosani (Romania),
  • University of Applied Sciences Mittweida (Germany),
  • Hasselt University (Belgium),
  • Université de Lorraine (France).

At the end of 2023, EURECA-PRO University started the second phase of the project, scheduled for 2023-2027. In this phase, further integration of partner universities and intensification of joint projects are planned. There are also plans to build the beginnings of a joint structure in the form of stand-alone European University offices to replace the existing inter-university working groups.

One of the biggest challenges facing the EURECA-PRO consortium is to ensure the widespread participation of members of the academic community of individual universities in the consortium activities. In order to achieve this, the number of organized joint events at all levels (student, doctoral, employee) as well as in various areas of joint activities (didactic, scientific, organizational, promotional, social, etc.) is gradually increasing. Many of these activities require the direct involvement of representatives of the academic community at the partner's premises and the associated mobility.

The project responds to the basic problem related to the implementation of joint activities - the lack of sufficient financial resources to ensure the required level of mobility (especially short-term).

The project provides financial support for the short-term mobility of students, PhD students and employees of the Silesian University of Technology in order to increase their participation in activities that support the acquisition of competences and are organised within the EURECA-PRO consortium, for example:

  • Staff Week
  • PhD Journey,
  • STEM Contest,
  • Summer/Winter School,
  • Workshop,
  • International Week,
  • Science Slam,
  • Study Trip,
  • Innovation Academy,
  • STEM Colloquium,
  • Project Week,
  • Conference,
  • Science Days,
  • Review Week,
  • BIP,
  • etc.

The activities take various forms and are addressed to different groups of recipients, realizing the goals and mission of the European University. Participation in activities requires (in most cases - apart from remote cooperation) short-term mobility; Most often it is 3-5 days.

Some of the activities are typical didactic forms, having a predetermined program, schedule and ending with the issuance of a certificate or certificate to the participant. Other activities are various forms of active cooperation in the area of teaching, science, social and social studies, among others..

Thanks to the co-financing of short-term mobility, the project will allow for a significant increase in the participation of representatives of the Silesian University of Technology in joint initiatives carried out by foreign partners of the EURECA-PRO consortium. This participation will translate directly proportionally into the implementation of one of the main assumptions of the programme and the achievement of the expected result, i.e. "intensification of academic exchange and increase in internationalisation".

Indirectly, as a result of mobility, a positive impact of the project implementation is also expected on:

  • development of scientific cooperation and its results (projects, publications, patents, implementations, etc.),
  • strengthening the position of the Silesian University of Technology in the international dimension.

The project provides for two forms of settlement of mobility support:

  1. In the form of financing the actual costs of delegations - in case of mobility not related to organized forms of education, such as - active participation in a conference abroad;
  • obtaining materials for a doctoral dissertation, scientific article;
  • performing measurements with the use of unique equipment, testing research equipment, unique artistic instruments;
  • performing archival or library queries;
  • conducting classes;
  • participation in the preparation of an international grant application;
  • and others.
  1. In the form of flat-rate scholarships, enabling participation in organized courses, trainings, workshops, summer schools, etc.
