On September 26th, the first workshops for this year’s high school graduates took place at our Faculty! It was conducted by our Society members: Agnieszka Kicińska, Natalia Siodłak, Hubert Knap and Mateusz Pilszek.
Almost 70 students came to us! We were visited by our ALO from Gliwice, TEB Edukacja Giwice and II High School. Stanisław Staszic from Tarnowskie Gór.
At the beginning, our guests were divided into 2 groups, during which one went to the lecture and the other to the laboratory. After 1.5 hours there was a change of groups. During the classes, students had the opportunity to take part in a real lecture in the auditorium on Czerwona where we prepared a presentation on how to learn effectively. The students got to know different techniques of learning, work organization and brain warm-ups, which they were happy to do together with us. In addition to learning methods, we explained the differences between university and polytechnic, including what is the goal of passing the baccalaureate.
During the classes in the laboratory, students learned simple and basic laboratory activities such as weighing, filtering or making the appointed solution. At the end of the class, the students made the work sheets prepared by us.
"It's an amazing experience for us to be on the other side and give a lecture, write instructions and do labs. The whole preparation of the workshop plan has been going on since June! But seeing smiles and getting applause after the lecture, we feel that it was worth it"- comments Agnieszka
"In my opinion, our first workshop at Silesian University of Technology turned out sensational. Young people were strongly involved in the labs, as well as the lecture. Conducting the lecture was easier than doing the lab. Due to a large number of people and a fairly short time to carry out the exercise, together with MSc inż. Anna Byczek-Yrostek we had to give 100%. When the workshop is over, we know that some things can be improved so that the future of the workshop runs perfectly." - our President Mateusz comments on his impressions
