There were 2 major conferences recently attended by members of the society!
The international, interdisciplinary Environmental Protection & Energy Conference (EPAE) took place on 6 December. EPAE was first held in 2013, and over the years it has become one of the most important events, bringing together young scientists, researchers and professionals from all over the world to share their insights and advances in the field of environmental protection and energy. Dominika Kmiecik presented the results of a PBL project in collaboration with the construction department. ‘The title of the presentation was ‘Physicochemical Modifications of Spruce Wood for selected Construction Applicaions: Flexibility in Leaching / Thermochemical forming on Mechanical Strength and Structural Properties of ecological product’. The talk was about the physicochemical and thermomechanical modification of spruce wood for construction applications as ecological and modified wood is better than classic wood. This was my first conference. Overall a lot of people, professional approach of the organisers and very abundant in content.’ - comments our colleague.
Piotr Kotlarczyk was the second person representing ChSRS. He presented preliminary results of a study entitled. ‘Application possibilities of a chitosan sorbent grafted with PAN ligand for the recovery of cobalt from aqueous solutions containing competitive nickel’, which was carried out at the Department of Inorganic, Analytical and Electrochemical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Silesian University of Technology, under the scientific supervision of Silesian University of Technology Professor Joanna Kluczka, Ph.D. and Łukasz Wujcicki, M.Sc.
The Winter Meeting of the Young Section of the Polish Chemical Society was held at the Maria Skłodowska Curie University in Lublin on 14 December. The Chemistry Department was represented by as many as 20 students! During the conference, Łukasz Czapura, in recognition of his award at the spring congress, gave his lecture entitled ‘Divide and modify - extraction and functionalisation of single-walled carbon nanotubes
carbon nanotubes’. The other participants took part in a poster session. We emerged victorious and showed what science with a capital N means! The committee recognised students at every degree level!
