Student Scientific Associations from the Silesian University of Technology, including our Society, have been among the winners of the ''Studenckie koła naukowe tworzą innowacje'' competition. Funding has been granted to 7 projects! The competition is organized by the Ministry of Education and Science. Its aim is to support scientific associations in implementing innovative projects, enhancing the quality of their activities, and improving the mechanism of technology transfer and the implementation of technical solutions generated within their scope of work into the economic sphere.

We can boast of a tremendous success! Project No. 1.12 SKN/SP/569054/2023 at the Silesian University of Technology with the topic: ''Innowacyjne folie biodegradowalne, na bazie chitozanu i alginianu wzmocnione włóknami kwasu (poli-L-mlekowego)'' has received a funding amount of 40,200.00 PLN!

The research work will be carried out by a group of students: Dominika Kluska, inż. Michał Nowotarski, Natalia Staniek, and Sonia Wardejn, who are members of the Chemistry Students Research Society in the research group led by Dr. Hab. inż. Gabriela Dudek, Prof. at the Silesian University of Technology

"The research planned within this project includes the development and characterization of biodegradable chitosan and alginate films filled with acid (poly-L-lactic), in order to increase the mechanical strength of the film of natural origin. The planned works include preparation of polymer solutions with different starting concentrations, preparation of poly (L-lactide) nanofibers with different parameters using electro-spinning technique, preparation of biodegradable films containing acid nanofibers (poly-L-lactic), characterization of mechanical, lyophilic, structural properties and barrier to oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor. Thanks to the conducted tests, it will be possible to verify the effect of nanofibers added to the polymer matrix on the mechanical strength of the resulting materials. The results obtained will also be the basis for further studies on the modification of nanofibers obtained from electro-spinning in order to select the optimal process parameters, guaranteeing the best mechanical, lyophilic and barrier properties of chitosan and alginate films. " - comments Eng. Michał Nowatorski

We sincerely congratulate the whole team and wish you every success in research!
