A A+ A++

Students and PhD students at our university in June have a very intensive time and it is not about studying for the session! 😊 Recently, our barbecue and Poster Session of this year’s graduates took place. However, during these events there were also other events that were very important for our community. Here are some memories of students who were at conferences and a PhD student who came back from Australia! We invite you to read.

MSc Eng. Magdalena Gwóźdź about the internship, which took place from 4.05 to 18.06

As a PhD student at the Department of Organic Chemical Technology and Petrochemistry, I had a unique opportunity to do an internship at the renowned Monash University
in Australia, under the supervision of PhD Karolina Matuszek. The internship was made possible thanks to the initiative of the National Agency for Academic Exchange, within the framework of the “Partnerstwa Strategiczne project.

The main topic of my research was the analysis of the physical properties of phase-change materials derived from precursors of natural origin. The development of sustainable phase-change materials is the subject of my research, which I carry out as part of my doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof. Anna Chrobok and PhD Alina Brzęczek-Szafran. During the internship I developed skills in the application of differential scanning calorimetry and gained knowledge of X-ray diffraction techniques, which help to determine the crystallographic structure of the studied materials.

In addition, during my stay in Australia I had the opportunity to see amazing wildlife and the flora of this continent. From breathtaking landscapes to encountering kangaroos, parrots and koalas in their natural habitat. This trip gave me a great experience and I will certainly mention Australia as one of the best places I have had the opportunity to visit.

Eng. Łukasz Wujcicki about the symposium at UMCS

The 11th National Symposium „Lubelskie Spotkania Studenckie” was held in Lublin on June 26th, which was held at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. This symposium was aimed mainly at students and doctoral students, where they could present their research results. Among the presenters was Mr. Łukasz Wujcicki, who gave a presentation entitled: „Problematyka usuwania fosforu z matrycy wodnej przy użyciu hydrożeli chitozanowych", and the presented issue has been implemented for three semesters as part of the PBL- „Inicjatywa doskonałości” project at the Department of Inorganic, Analytical and Electrochemistry by a research team supervised by dr hab. eng. Joanna Kluczka. As part of the symposium, it was possible to publish a post-conference article on the subject.

The opportunity to participate in the Symposium in the largest scientific and research unit on the right side of the Vistula River was an interesting experience, thanks to which I could meet interesting people and deepen my knowledge of sorption techniques, as well as get acquainted with issues that are currently of interest among young scientists. In addition to the seminar, we had the opportunity to visit many attractive places of the region, including the historical market square in Lublin.

Memories of students from Brenna

Four students of our faculty took part in the conference “The International Students Scientific Conference TalentDetector”. It was organized by the Department of Engineering Materials and Biomaterials, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology and the Materials Engineering Circle of the Students Association of the Silesian University of Technology on 26.06 in Brenna.

A poster session was held at the conference and several selected lectures of the conference participants were presented.

At the conference were:

- Marta Skrzek and Adrianna Wierzbicka with a poster about the design of microfluidic reactors of the “Lab-On-Chip” type

- Kinga Bartel with a poster “Dedicated calculator for determining critical micelle concentration”.

- Sebastian Górecki with a presentation on the research on the recovery of zinc from waste aqueous solutions

Our participation in the conference was financed as part of the presentation of the results of the PBL projects.

The conference was very interesting and it was possible to meet many students conducting research on different materials, and to establish contacts with lecturers from other faculties who had a different point of view on our problems, in which they offered their help.

As you can see, our students and PhD students, despite the end of the academic year, continue to develop their passion for chemistry and discovering the many interesting places the world can honour us with.

We wish all students who will be struggling with exams and passing in the summer session in the coming days to break their feathers and avoid the “September campaign” 😉
