While we are about to start a new academic year, board members Maciej Gdala and Mateusz Pilszek attended the Young Scientists Symposium 2024 at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw.

On the first day, members had the opportunity to attend a workshop on presenting research results in a professional manner. Afterwards, they were able to listen to oral presentations on related sciences, such as biophysics or solid state physics.

The following day, Matthew and Maciej had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion and another session of oral presentations, which focused on nuclear physics and materials engineering.

On the last day of the conference, at the very beginning of the day, the members of the Circle actively discussed oral presentations on chemistry, which were conducted in English, before presenting their research results in a poster session.

This work was funded by the National Centre for Research and Development under the LIDER XI programme (project no.: LIDER/30/0116/L-11/19/NCBR/2020; Manager: PhD Maciej Sowa; grant value: PLN 1,500,000)

Maciej presented research on the introduction of solvent dyes into oxide coatings produced by plasma electrolytic oxidation on magnesium alloys. The research was carried out under the supervision of PhD Maciej Sowa and M.Sc. Aleksander Olesiński.

Mateusz, on the other hand, presented research on the synthesis and characterisation of innovative ionic liquids based on poly(dimethylsiloxane). The supervisor of the research work is PhD Piotr Latos,

After conference hours, the guys had the opportunity to visit several Warsaw museums, most notably the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum and the National Museum of Technology. A walk along the Vistula River and in the Old Town was not to be missed.
