Nowadays, higher education is no longer limited to sitting in lectures and gaining knowledge, but also creates extraordinary opportunities for development and scientific exploration for students. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we present to you an article dedicated to two exceptional students who, with their commitment, passion and hard work, have achieved what many consider an unattainable goal – they have published their own scientific publications.
Klaudia Szatan is a chemistry student who will defend her engineering work in February next year. Her work in the team of PhD Tomasz Jarosz resulted in a publication on pyrotechnic retarding compositions.
The aim of the study was to investigate the possibility of using barium peroxide as an environmentally friendly oxidizing agent, to evaluate the composition of combustion products of developed pyrotechnic retardant compositions (PDCs) and to provide information on the effect of spent metallic fuel on (Mg, Al, Fe or Cu) on the properties of these PDCs.
The second student, and at the same time the coordinator of the popular science section in our Society, is Kacper Gall.
Kacper together with our members - Pola Branecka and Mateusz Słabon published their results of research, which were conducted in cooperation with the Łukasiewicz Research Network Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals. The subject of the research was to investigate the density and solubility of adrenal compounds.
Rhenium is widely used as an additive to nickel and cobalt-based superalloys. Their resistance to temperature and corrosion makes them suitable for the production of turbines in civil and military aviation, safety valves on drilling platforms, and tools operating at temperatures exceeding 1000 °C. The purity of commercial rhenium salts is very important. Potassium, which is a particularly undesirable element, can be removed by recrystallization.
Kacper modestly commented that for him publication is primarily about publishing his research results.
The students to whom we have come to pay attention not only proved that it is possible to combine learning with student life, but also surprised the scientific world with their achievements. We wish them as much fruitful scientific research as possible!
