A Week of Organs in the City of Science
The sixteenth of all 50 weeks in the City of Science is a Week of Organs. The event takes place as part of the European City of Science celebrations, which will last throughout 2024.
What do you think about when you hear the term “organ”? Do you imagine a majestic musical instrument, or is it a heart, lung, or other internal organ? During a Week of Organs, each of these associations will be taken into account. During the Week, there will be concerts and workshops inaugurating the functioning of the new organs built in the concert hall of the Academy of Music. Among the performers will be the Rector of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice – Prof. Dr Hab. Władysław Szymański. Katowice will also host an outstanding French organist, Olivier Latry. We will listen to the organs in different places and different scenes. In addition, lectures and presentations of a pro-health nature are planned. Have any of you ever thought about the administrative organs or organs of power? It is also an interesting topic that we will certainly touch on.
We will also invite you to visit the Academic Museum of Silesian Organs, and for children we will prepare workshops using… oral organs and concerts with a repertoire that will certainly interest them.
