The Week of Three Cultures in the City of Science
On February 26th, the Week of Three Cultures in the European City of Science Katowice 2024 begins. Many interesting events for younger and older residents of the region have been planned. You can find the details in the schedule below.
Although it seems impossible today, there was once a country in Europe where three cultures and three major religions coexisted: Islam, Judaism and Christianity. What country was it? Spain during the reign of Alfonso X the Wise, whose approach to science, religion and culture was completely different from the then prevailing model. This thirteenth-century Christian king was a supporter of religious tolerance and the promotion of knowledge of Jewish and Arab scholars, and the capital of his country, Toledo, was one of the most important cities of science in Europe at that time. Today we are returning to these roots in Katowice - European City of Science 2024.
That's why the organizers propose an extraordinary week - the Week of Three Cultures, during which you will be able to:
• visit the Doha Centre for Culture and Dialogue;
• use original henna tattoos;
• learn the basics of Arabic and Hebrew;
• taste delicious Moroccan tea;
• listen to the concert of the evangelical choir and the playing of the bandura;
• see interesting exhibitions, listen to wise lectures and participate in interesting debates.
We will show how different cultures can not only coexist, but also interpenetrate and enrich each other.
The Week of Three Cultures aims to show that science and culture always go hand in hand and work for peace.
