24th Scientific Picnic of Polish Radio and Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw

CLIMATE AND US
One of the biggest challenges facing humanity is to minimise the consequences of the climate crisis. We do not wish to fear-monger or cause despair. We will show you how science and technology can aid us in adapting to new life conditions and stop the further change of climate.

THE LIVE WEEKEND: 8–9 MAY
How to organise a Science Picnic when you cannot set out tents and invite an audience? We found a way! We encourage you to have your own, private, family picnics. Get out of your house on the 8th and 9th of May, put down a blanket, look at the nature around you, and get ready to experiment. Make sure to take us with you – on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop. We'll be waiting online with inspirations, experiment ideas, and interesting short videos by over a hundred creators.

You'll see how little you need to organise some scientific fun, and to notice things you've never seen before, although they were right under your nose.

The online meetings on 8 and 9 May are divided into 3 live blocks:

11.00–12.30 – for the youngest. We'll tell them how to observe nature, starting just behind the front door. We'll show them simple experiments, and incredible organisms that live around us. We'll go to a zoo, a forest, a bear hospital, and underwater. We'll learn how to make bug houses, rainwater containers, cosmetics.

14.30–16.00 – the block with the most interesting experiments. Some are doable at home. Others require special equipment, but are worthy of watching. See also films by international guests of the picnic, health related materials, and experiments conducted by young scientists. On top of that, we will talk about smog, CO2 emissions, and glaciers.

18.00–19.30 – evening is for the older picnic goers. Time for live meetings with experts and materials brought by research institutions. The Saturday block will conclude with a live sky show from Copernicus' planetarium, and the Sunday one – with a science show on climate.
